Lindal Cedar Homes is a world leader in home design. In 1945, Sir Walter Lindal founded the company in Toronto, Ontario. Today, the Lindal family still own - and manage - the business from its headquarters in Seattle, WA. Over 50,000 modern and traditional post-and-beam Lindal homes have been built across North America and internationally.
Lindal helps clients to design and build a high-quality custom home, backed by the industry's only Lifetime Structural Warranty. We have a 75-year tradition of excellence in the design and build of beautiful homes. We design our homes for flexibility and endurance. The quality and craftsmanship of a Lindal cedar home are unique and can't be duplicated by cutting corners.
Lindal is proud to use the best new home materials from Mother nature: A kiln-dried, premium-grade Western red cedar you simply won't find anywhere else. You can choose from multiple siding options that can be mixed and matched to create a unique look. Our high-quality materials are the secret to the dramatic beauty, structural integrity, low maintenance, and living comfort in all Lindal post and beam homes. It's also the reason we're able to offer a Lifetime Structural Warranty on every home built.
Lindal homes are widely recognized for their relationship to the natural environment, but our commitment goes far beyond capturing breathtaking panoramic views. For us, the goal is to do everything possible to preserve the world that our homes celebrate. Sustainability and environmental stewardship is reflected in everything we do-from design to materials, site selection, building techniques, and beyond.

We engaged Fine Point Cedar Homes when we chose a Lindal Cedar home design for our dream retirement home. We were impressed by their responsiveness to our queries and thoroughly appreciated the professionalism shown to us as new home builders. They were prompt in answering our continual questions as we stepped through the building process. We were also very grateful that Lindal stuck to our quoted budget despite the price fluctuations on numerous goods / services that were prevalent during the pandemic. All in all, we are vey pleased with our Lindal designed home and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to others.

I would not recommend Lindal. Their Ohio rep Matt at Walnut Creek Builders was, exceptionally rude, belittled my site study, was hugely unprofessional, and so unresponsive to my inquiry and requests that he stopped my building progress such that I am forced to find a different cedar home manufacturer.

While Lindal Cedar Homes are undeniably beautiful to behold, their business model appears to have been borrowed from a used car lot, mattress store or cheap pawn shop. This is a painful review for me to write because I have dreamed of owning a Lindal "Prow Front" cabin since I was a teenager. And now that I am a position to build multiple homes, I have found getting a straight answer out of Lindal to be absolutely impossible.
I have repeatedly asked for straightforward pricing information and all I get are absolutely useless broad estimate ranges of $280,000 to $450,000 for the same home. I have unsuccessfully tried getting a price for the home I am interested in built on site by their dealer with no upgrades. I have unsuccessfully tried to get pricing for the home I am interested in delivered as a kit for me to build on site.
I have tried unsuccessfully to get the foundation requirements for the home I am interested in. I have tried unsuccessfully to get confirmation that the home I am interested in is designed to meet current code requirements for the state I live in. In fact, I have tried unsuccessfully to get any meaningful information needed to decide if a Lindal Cedar Home is a practical alternative for me. NO MATTER HOW SIMPLE THE SITUATION IS, LINDAL REFUSES TO DISCLOSE ANY RELEVANT PRICING -- CITING HOW COMPLICATED THE PROCESS IS AND THAT ENGINEERING MAY BE REQUIRED ETC. IN MY CASE THAT IS PURE MALARKEY.
I TOLD BOTH THE DEALER AND LINDAL THAT I HAVE A FLAT LOT AND I WILL DO ALL THE SITE AND FOUNDATION WORK. ALL I NEED IS THE PRICE OF THE HOUSE. AND BOTH THE DEALER AND THE MAIN COMPANY REFUSE TO PROVIDE A PRICE UNLESS I PAY THEM FOR THE PRIVILEGE OF FINDING OUT HOW MUCH THEY ARE GOING TO CHARGE ME. IT IS THAT SIMPLE. It appears that their business model is designed to suck consumers into a long and complicated process with a dealer you are forced to work with where you are expected to get steadily more and more invested/committed without having any idea what the the final pricing is going to look like. Doesn't this sound like a jewelry store or pawn shop where they are trying to size you up and figure out how much they can gouge you for?
The last time I felt this uneasy shopping, it was running from jeweler to jeweler in my 20's trying to figure out how an engagement ring was going to cost. Check out their website (Lindal.com) and let me know if you can find prices or price ranges for any home or kit anywhere. Not even their "Quick Ship" homes have any pricing information. Worse yet, the dealer I dealt with couldn't provide me with any delivery time estimates either.
I do not know for sure if my experience is the result of a rogue dealer that sucks or if this is the way Lindal wants their business run. Unfortunately, I have written Lindal corporate several times and each time they just refer me back to dealer without answering any of my questions. As a result, I am left to conclude that the dealer is doing exactly what Lindal wants them to do.
Truly sad. P.S. If you want an indication of how tone deaf 75 years of success has made Lindal, read the company's response to my review. My favorite part is when she says, "Since it appears you have never actually engaged a Lindal rep I'm not sure why you feel qualified to disparage the company with a poor review." As in, how dare you criticize us for hiding our prices until you hire us.
Just as with all my previous communication with company, they are incapable of understanding that the lot is flat, I will provide the foundation and ALL I NEED IS THE PRICE OF THE HOUSE. Is that really too much to ask? P.P.S. If you are tempted by Josefin's reply to believe I am being even a little bit too harsh, check Lindal's recent reviews on real estate industry oriented review sites such as ConsumerAffairs and scroll down this page to read the reviews classified "not currently recommended." You will find that all but one are detailed, appear credible and mirror my criticism.
I have written almost 350 Yelp reviews (click on my photo to read them all :-) and the vast majority are 4 or 5 stars. In fact, I will be writing a 5-star review of LowVARate later today. My 1-star reviews are reserved for companies whose customer service and attitude are the absolute worst of the worst. P.P.P.S. Most damning, read their reply carefully and you can't help notice that the one thing conspicuously missing from Lindal's response to my review was, "Call us at (123)456-7890 and we will make sure you are taken care of." They either "don't get it" or they "don't care."

If I could give this company a big fat ZERO I would. They "bundle" their prices so you don't know what you're paying for nor do you know how much your building materials will cost until AFTER you have given them your non refundable deposit. Their resolution process is NON EXISTENT. Don't give them a dime unless you have everything in writing including the total cost of materials.
Then ask them exactly what the cost is of each included item will be. If they can't or won't tell you it should be a red flag. We were given a total for building materials. We paid them a deposit. After making some modifications that included removing many thousands of dollars of "their" materials, the cost of the remaining materials was MORE than the original total.
I would be happy to provide anyone more info as well as references to other people who have had a bad experience with this company. Some of them couldn't finish their home because they ran out of money and others couldn't even start building their home because they couldn't qualify for the mortgage that would cover the cost of building it.
All of us found out that the cost to build a Lindal home far exceeded what they estimate it will cost. This all happens AFTER you have given them thousands and thousands of non refundable money!
