When it comes to self-made men, Bob Cousin is one of them. In 1979, Cousin started his own home building business at age 24. He started in the industry working some summer jobs with carpenters and took some construction management courses at the University of Northern Iowa. However, he figured that learning at the proverbial School of Hard Knocks would provide him better experience before he opened his doors.
