Com-Steel LLC has its roots deep in Whatcom County, Washington. After retiring from Anvil Corporation in 1990 Doug Smith and his wife Maralee started designing and permitting commercial and industrial buildings as Com-Steel, Inc. For five years, Com-Steel, Inc. teamed up with Jack Laird Construction, a well-known local contractor, to provide construction services until their formal partnership as Com-Steel, LLC in 1995.
We've designed and constructed hundreds of buildings for a variety of uses, including warehousing, retail, agriculture, manufacturing, aircraft hangars, churches and office buildings. Most projects utilize a pre-engineered metal building manufactured by Garco Building Systems in Spokane, Washington.
Com-Steel took my company from a position of vision and "what if" to the reality of a well built, functional facility that is unmatched in my local industry. There was never a doubt during the building process that the end product would be of the highest quality and value. I was given the freedom to run my business, while Doug, Rusty, Sara and the crew took my project from concept to completion.
Com-Steel is committed to maintaining a safe and productive worksite. Safety starts even before an employee walks on the job-site with pre-employment drug screening and safety training. Foremen hold weekly safety meetings on the job sites to ensure employees are aware of job-specific safety concerns.
