Founded in 1946 in Freeport, Illinois, the roots that have formed our values are literally in the heartland's rich soil. As we've grown and evolved into one of the most technically skilled construction companies in the Midwest, we've stayed true to those hard-working values. We're unabashedly proud of them, as we are the breadth and strength of our company's capabilities and the diversity of our team's skills. Since Helm's early days in the mid-20th Century, our world has been in a rapid state of change, driven largely by technology's unrelenting advance.
The first step in every new opportunity is to really listen to what the customer wants. Ideally, we will meet with the customer to understand the end project and talk through each step in our process. On plan and spec projects where there isn't an opportunity to meet, we study the plans and specifications so that we are pricing exactly what is needed.
Helm traces its history back to the wild, wooly 1880s when AC Johnston sold coal, lumber and cars. Our current company was founded as Freeport Blacktop Construction Company in 1946. Eventually, FBT became Civil Constructors. The rest is a story of decades of strategic diversification and growth, continuous improvement and innovation.
At Helm Group, "service" means more than fulfillment. How we engage with partners and customers is of the utmost importance to our company from the very first interaction to project completion. Customer service is a lost art that's increasingly being overlooked, outsourced or 100% automated, but working with Helm means you will work with experienced employees on and off the job site.
