Bill Sweatman started Sweatman Construction Services in 1989 as a one-man operation. He had the ambition to deliver quality craftsmanship at a fair price. In 1995 he put together a team of professionals and incorporated as Sweatman-Young, Inc. Our success is due to our team spirit, honesty, focus on quality, our goal to meet the client's desires and needs and the dedication to get the job done right. We work with a group of hand-selected subcontractors and suppliers that have proven to live up to the same standards that we hold ourselves to.

In 2010 we moved into our "new" home on American Lake in Lakewood, WA. We purchased a full set of kitchen appliances range, hood, refer, dishwasher, built-in microwave. Then we needed someone to remodel our kitchen around those appliances. Sweatman-Young was recommended. With change orders, perfectly supported, documented, and priced, we wound up with a new kitchen, two bathrooms, a five foot extension to a bedroom wing, a new utility room which had been a breezeway between the kitchen and carport, a new roof, and a complete in and out pain job. The project started in March and finished up end of September. We couldn't have been more pleased with the whole process.

I called and obtained 2 estimates for the repair of some water damage at my back door. Bill came out to give me the estimate. He was very thorough in his estimation for the repairs. Chris and Lucas arrived to make the repairs, they were punctual and professional! I watched over the course of 3 days as they worked, I was impressed with their attention to detail and skill.
The finished product was amazing! They had to remove the existing French doors and pull up a section of my dining room floor to remove the damaged section and rebuild it. Chris and Lucas took pride in their work and the finished product looks better then when the house was originally built! After each day of work all materials were picked up and they cleaned up too! Thanks for a job well done, I'll be calling for some inside trim work this summer! Thanks again!

We contracted with Sweatman-Young, Inc. last fall to remodel our condo. This company was referred to us and we interviewed two others before we selected this one. Sweatman was our general contractor and from the start, we were impressed because he presented the most complete bid package with pictures/drawings. Additionally, he was always on time and always followed-through - easy to communicate with and available.
The entire condo was redone with a new kitchen, all new woodwork throughout, new carpet and two bathrooms. He uses nothing but quality subs and if they don't meet his expectations he will manage it to satisfaction. I was impressed that all of the companies he dealt with had positive and respectful things to say about Sweatman. As a project manager, he came through on every deadline and nothing was ever delayed.
There were no glitches or hang-ups to speak of in terms of the project. In the end, there were a few minor issues with product but he has been there to help me each time and never has made me feel like I shouldn't call. My only regret is that there were some things that I wish I had done differently and/or thought of. But my experience is that this will always be the case.
In terms of value for the dollar, two of the three bids came in at almost the exact same cost. The third one was 40% less which concerned us. Of course, I would have liked it to be less money but you get what you pay for. This is quality work!

Sweatman-Young is currently finishing up their second custom construction job for me. Working with a contractor on a custom two story home was a daunting undertaking and I never would have believed how easy and fun it could be to build a home but the way Bill operates, that's how it turned out. He kept me informed all along the way on what they were doing, what would happen next and what decisions I needed to make.
If he thought I might be making the wrong decision on something, he would explain his perspective and then let me make the ultimate decision. I never felt pressured to do it his way and I did feel like he was committed to producing the home I would be pleased with and he would be proud of. His hand-picked sub-contractors all seem to adhere to the same level of professionalism and pride in their work and believe in open communication with the homeowner.
I never felt uncomfortable with having these workers in my home. If you are thinking of a custom construction job or remodel job, I highly recommend Sweatman-Young. And they have done some beautiful restoration work in Old Town Tacoma that I was privileged to see. Wish I could be the homeowner on one of those!
