Please allow me to endorse Heckaman Homes start to finish. As a businessman I perhaps am more critical than most picking apart offerings that I have preconceived notions about. To help address those notions my wife and I attended a factory tour, joining our daughter and son-in-law. I was passionate on rating all phases beginning with the sales pitch to witnessing the final product.
Rest assured ALL were on full display during this highly interactive tour. See it, touch it and ask as many questions as you would like. Remember the age old and simple expression "The Proof Is In The Pudding".? Well to fast forward, our daughter & son-in-law ordered their new beautiful Heckaman home. It has been fully constructed and they along with their two young sons are enjoying it tremendously.
My wife and I are making plans currently to have Heckaman construct our forever home near the end of 2022. If you are looking for an honest, professional organization that has earned their FIRST CLASS reputation in the marketplace I encourage you to look no further. Do yourself as well as your family a favor by doing what we did, call Heckaman Homes today! They can help reduce your stress in the largest purchase of your lifetime. I have had my home for three years. I paid extra for a walk-in tiled shower. These are the pictures of the floor under it. It has been leaking since day one but it was under the base so you couldn't tell. I called heckaman and they said it's out of warranty not their problem. I understand things happen but stand behind your work. Instead I have to pay $5k to get it fixed. Dennis Osworth

Before I ordered the home, Heckaman claimed they'd dealt with my contractor for a number of years with no complaints. When things went south, they refused to accept my complaint, saying they were only the manufacturer and I had to deal with the contractor. After the fact, he said such things as backfill weren't included in the "turn key house" he promised for occupation in "July or August." It's mid January, he's had the full payment for a long time, and the project still isn't complete. Heckaman should NOT claim there were no complaints on contractors when they in fact have the receptionist trained to refuse complaints.
I sent emails to the sales manager and CEO, with no reply. Heckaman should also fully disclose what is and isn't included in their modules. There was wiring and pluming for most appliances, but NOT for the dishwasher, as an example. I paid $500 for upgraded electrics, and the breaker box that came with the module was sub-standard without enough spaces for normal appliances. Bath tubs are tiny.
Standard toilets leave skid marks and crumbs. It takes a long extension cord to vacuum the stairs do to no nearby outlets. Several interior walls were seriously out of square. The roof leaked before the roofing was applied, and I'm expected to paint the brown. The house is noisy in wind. The flooring is on low grade fiberboard. So far, that hasn't been a real problem. Windows pop in the wind.
It's a shame. They COULD be a really good supplier if they accepted and dealt with complaints. Their main location is in a community that has a lot of good Amish and other Mennonite craftsmen who tend to work well and honestly. Heckaman's Web site should have MANY more details about the homes, including the issues I've mentioned. I would have been willing to have paid extra for decent sized tubs and toilets, for example.
Even at retail, a decent sized breaker box is just $15 more! I hope my review helps Heckaman become a better company. They especially need to communicate with the end users of their homes and also make sure that their contractors are honest and do decent work!

Lots of complaints in this area! Don't deal with ANY contractor without a detailed written contract, especially in states like Illinois where contractors have stacked the deck against consumers. Many of the problems were in the modules themselves. No caulking around plumbing, MANY unfilled nail holes, a lot of cracking before and after installation, walls that aren't square, poor materials used, especially for flooring and cabinetry, poor plumbing especially toilets and bath units. Materials around the bath stain very easily.
Low grade fiberboard used for flooring. No trim around stairs. Undersized breaker box. Noisy cheap vinyl siding. The home was "finished" many months after the promised date. Others in my area also had very bad experiences. Kitchen cabinetry needed repairs shortly after installed. I didn't save time or money by going with a Heckaman module!

I have no complaints with the home itself but I do have a laundry list of complaints with the general contractor, which is a form of representation of Heckaman since they don't choose just anyone to work with. I won't go into the issues with the general but what I will say is we have reached out to Heckaman multiple times over the course of more than a year TRYING to make complaints about the general contractor and the issues we were having. Levi was the Heckaman rep in charge of our home.
It was impossible to catch him when he wasn't busy. He never returned our calls. They said they don't deal with home owners directly and rerouted us back to the general contractor that was the problem every time. I get the idea of not working with the customer directly but when that customer reaches out time and time again with issues and you still choose to ignore it, you have become a part of the problem. The home itself is nice but the total experience was a nightmare. It's our first home we had built and I don't think I would do it again.

My husband and I started the building process with Heckaman Homes at the end of May and by the end of June our house was set. Honestly, the manufacturing and setting of our house was the fastest and smoothest part of the home buying/building process. Heckaman Homes had a variety of floorplan options, but we fell in love with two different homes so they worked with us to combine them into one.
Our spacious kitchen is our favorite part of the house (pictured below), and the process to pick out our counters, cabinets, sinks, lights, flooring, and everything else was simple yet we had lots of different options. The day they set the house and finished the roof (literally all in one day) was one we will remember forever. Our great contractor was also really important to this process.

If you're looking for your dream home, then I highly recommend to go with Heckaman Homes! When my husband and I decided we wanted to build a new home, we were nervous about the process of doing so; but Heckaman Homes took all of our worries away! They worked with us through the whole process, and they made sure we got exactly what we needed. The employees were always available and eager to help when we had any questions or changes to add.
We are now living in our beautiful home, and it is beyond perfect! This company crafted our home to fit all of our wants and needs, and I couldn't be more grateful! I loved the process of building a home with Heckaman Homes, and I would do it again in a heartbeat!

We bought a Heckaman home in 2005. There really isn't a positive comment I could give them. The windows are horrible. From Anderson. I thought this was a good. The windows and doors aren't The bath tub and shower have chips on them. The kitchen cabinets are cheap. The cabinets are generic and just cheap! The wood on the cabinets are starting to fade.
The cabinets themselves aren't deep enough. We had to replace our roof already. Their roof has a recall on them. Heckaman didn't support us in way. Didn't want to eat involved. A representative came out looked at the windows. Told me to contact Anderson! If I could do it all over again. Wouldn't ever buy another! They are barely a step up from a trailer. Heckaman Homes just suck!

Our Heckaman Home was set in December of 2016. During the finishing process, 6 area's of black mold contamination were found within our new home. The mold was present when it arrived from the factory. Since the majority of the home was finished in the factory and has not been disassembled, we are uncertain if these are the only area's of concern.
We requested open dialog with HH to inform them of the situation, understand the cause, hear what their corrective action was to insure that the issue was addressed and to understand how long this issue has been ongoing. Finally, we were looking for some assurance that HH would stand behind their product if we uncover additional area's of mold or if the situation becomes chronic.
After a month of continued request for feeback with no reply, we finally received a response. The HH reply stated "It is the understanding of HH that all mold has been remedied and that no further action is required." then distanced themselves from any additional mold liability by stating "It is the homeowners responsibility to ensure that the home is ventilated and humidity levels are maintained.to mitigate the development of moisture" which could lead to future mold related issues.
Due to the lack of a detailed reply and ownership for the mold, we have no reason to believe that HH has remedied the issue, or that they have stopped producing and delivering homes with black mold. Good Luck to you in your choice of a trusted partner for your new home.

Lived in a heckaman for 17 years. Loved it. Patient, knowledgeable staff. Always get back quickly. They work with individual ideas and really cater to personal needs without overcomplicating it. Their houses are amazing, last forever, and are so much faster than other businesses. 100% would recommend

I am the second owner of this Heckaman built house. "The ten year guarantee doesn't cover the roof." That's what I was told when my roof started leaking around a vent stack. They really cheaped out when they installed/contracted this roof. Leaked within 7 years; have to replace shingles after 17 years. Other gripes include : -The lot was poorly graded which has led to some water damage. -The dryer vent outlet exited to the garage!?!
If you can find your car in the winter due to the fog, you had to wipe the dryer lint off your windshield -Lots of air gaps between the house and foundation If you plan on staying in your house longer than 5 years, you should find someone else to build it.
