John F Buchan Construction

John Buchan Homes make excellent traditional homes and are known in the greater seattle area as a quality builder. I am a current occupant of one of the homes they have built in Sammamish and I can see the detailed finishing they have done across the homes in my neighborhood as well as mine. Their website was easy to navigate with good pictures of recently sold homes.

I have reached out to them through the website and I was happily surprised that they not only reached back to me, but on the effort John Buchan Homes' staff took to get me the details that I needed. Special thanks to Mischelle McCall and Kevin G. for their efforts and going beyond. Really appreciate it.

Went to their community in North Bend. Not impressed, both Quadrant and Tolt had much nicer homes for the same price point. Pretty much contractor grade interiors with uninspired layout and Seattle Bubble pricing.

Having a home that functions well and supports your lifestyle.that's a game changer. That's what John Buchan Homes brings to the table.

Responding after 2 years it's a little bit late don't you think? My review still stands and you'd better check your record again. Seems like you can't find other people's too! Odd.

Update (12/20/2019): We have now lived in this house for 6 yrs and we have been impressed with the quality of the home. Their service has been good overall during this period. While some of the lingering issues continue (air-conditioning, hot water etc), we have been happy overall. We will definitely consider using Buchan for our next home. Original review (May 2013) We used Buchan Homes to build our home last year.

Overall experience is below par for what you would expect from John Buchan. In the quest for increasing their profits, they are cutting corners that they should not. - During the design phase of the construction, they were so disorganized and their designer had no idea on how to get a house designed with the options we needed. - When the house was being built, they installed all the wrong options.

I had to work with them on a daily basis to rectify the errors. - Quality of painting is so bad around the house. Even Dr Horton home was much better in this respect - Cabinet finishes were poor quality even though we were paying top dollar for it - They installed a counter top that was broken - had to work hard to get the issue resolved. - It takes 2 minutes for the hot water in any tap around the house.

They are not willing to address this issue. End result, my water bills are higher. - Vents for air-conditioning in the master bedroom is not doing its job. It takes hours for the master bedroom to cool down, while the secondary bedrooms are really cold and my kids have to wear sweaters, hats, socks and gloves to keep them warm in summer. This is not being addressed by them either. - Be in the kitchen area when the toilets in the master bedroom are flushed and you would hear the loud noise of the water being flushed down.

They are not willing to fix this issue, unless we pay for it. Really? - Door are really poor quality and the weather sealing has been poor. - Light seeps through the doors, when the doors are closed in the master bedroom. This ends up waking us up in the mornings when the light is turned on. Even Dr Horton, Centex homes were so much better in this area. - We chose Oil Rubbed Bronze finishes for faucets, and cabinet door handles.

We are noticing that the oil rubbed bronze coating is coming off in quite a few places - really poor quality for a high end builder. In summary, John Buchan quality has deteriorated in the last few years when the new management has taken over. So if you are choosing John Buchan homes, be prepared to face all the basic issues I have highlighted here.

Awesome group of people here. True craftsmanship goes into their homes. I've had the opportunity to work inside several of their homes and the quality is unmatched.

Had multiple problems when bought a brand new house from them in 2010. One window is broken and asked for info and no response. Awful before and after purchase experience!

We hired John Buchan Homes in 2014 to build a custom home. After interviewing several builders, we decided they would be the perfect fit. From the initial design process, to the end product, they exceeded our expectations. Building a home is not easy, but working with the John Buchan team made it possible. Our home was competed ahead of schedule and on budget. Getting that result is unheard of when building a home. We love our home and will be enjoying it for years to come.

John Buchan Homes has always been our family's first choice builder. The difference in quality is noticeable immediately. Buchan is known as the top high end, luxury builder in Washington. This is definitely still the case today.
